The material

Used suits and factory offcuts, shredded, bound and pressed into a new sheet. The neoprene is mixed: no mat comes from a single suit, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Why neoprene

Four things we expect, and will measure.

    Sweat should stay on top.

    Wetsuit neoprene keeps water out. How much this pressed sheet takes in is measured with a 24 hour soak, and the number goes here.

    Grip, tested wet.

    A dense, tactile surface is the aim. Slip angle is measured dry and wet, filmed as it happens, and published even if it disappoints.

  • 03

    Give where your joints land.

    Dense neoprene has give. Thickness is measured at five points, so you know what sits between the floor and your knees, wrists and spine.

  • 04

    Made to live in one room.

    Not a travel mat. Recycled neoprene is heavy, so this one is meant to be unrolled where you practise and left there.

Neoprene cannot be melted down and reused, so it is recycled mechanically: shredded, bound and pressed. The binder is a new ingredient.

Facts, not slogans

What we know, and what we will measure.

  1. Made of

    Recycled wetsuit neoprene, held by a binder.

    Used suits and factory offcuts, shredded and pressed with a binder. The share of each, and what the top surface is, gets printed here once the maker confirms it in writing.

  2. Why

    It does not go away on its own.

    Neoprene is a cross-linked rubber. It does not biodegrade and cannot be melted back down. Shredding and pressing it is one of the few ways to use it again.

  3. Carbon

    No carbon figure, on purpose.

    Our mat has a footprint too: binder, pressing, freight. We have no carbon audit, so we publish no carbon number.

We will not tell you this mat saves the ocean. We will tell you what is in it.

Why I am making this

Wetsuits wear out, and their neoprene cannot be melted into anything new. I wanted to practise on it. So I found a maker in the EU who presses it into dense sheets, and I am putting my name on the first series. I would rather do this honestly than fast.

The questions to ask first.

When does it launch, and what will it cost?
Not decided yet, and we will not guess in public. The price depends on the maker's quote and the first tests. Whoever pre-orders gets the date and the price by email, first, and confirms then, or not at all.
Am I committing to anything by pre-ordering?
No. A pre-order here costs nothing today: no payment, no card, nothing reserved in your name. When the price is announced, you confirm and pay, or you do nothing and it lapses. Until then, one click cancels it, in every email.
Made from used wetsuits. Is it clean?
The neoprene is shredded and pressed before it becomes a mat. We make no antibacterial claim: we will wipe, smell and soak a finished mat and publish what we find.
Will it smell?
New rubber mats often smell at first, recycled ones included. How strong it is, and how fast it fades, we will report from the first real mat.
How heavy is it?
Not measured yet, and weight is the honest challenge of this material. The recycled neoprene mats we found weigh 2.5 to 2.8 kg. You get the measured weight before you pay.
Is it genuinely recycled?
Mostly. The neoprene is recycled; the binder that holds it is new. The share of each is printed in the facts above once we have it.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
No. These photos are concept images, made before any sample existed. The first real mat will be photographed as it is, and its colour and finish are confirmed then.
Where do the wetsuits come from?
From used suits and factory offcuts, collected by the recycling maker we work with in the EU. We do not collect wetsuits ourselves.
